What Kind of Church?

Landmark Baptist Church was started in April of 1999. Since our beginning we have been an independent, fundamental, Bible-believing, Baptist church.
Independent – It is clear in the Bible that a local church is to be autonomous. We are not in a denominational system under any religious “headquarters” or “hierarchy”. Christ is the Head of the church and the Bible is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
Fundamental – We believe the Bible literally and stand on all of the fundamentals of the faith (such as the virgin birth and deity of Christ, salvation by grace, the inspiration of scripture, etc…).
Bible-believing – We believe that we have a perfect Bible in our language in the Authorized King James Version. We do not attempt to “correct” the KJB (with such phrases as “this is an unfortunate translation” or “the original Greek actually says”) but rather we believe every word of it as it is written.
Baptist – The historical name “Baptist” associates us with certain beliefs (such as the Bible as the final authority, autonomy of the church, baptism by immersion for believers only, eternal security of the believer, etc…). We are not ashamed of these beliefs. Therefore we are not ashamed to be called Baptist. The name “Baptist” is simply for identification and it does not associate us with any denominational system.
Landmark – The name “Landmark” is based on Proverbs 22:28 which says, “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set”. Drawing a spiritual application from this verse we want to be a church that does not compromise but rather stands true to the landmark of God’s word. Some associate the name “Landmark” with the “Baptist Bride” teaching and with such groups as the American Baptist Association (ABA). We are NOT a “Baptist Bride” church nor are we in any way associated with such groups as the ABA.
